Some perspective

"Hardly a day goes by without the press reporting about some new outrage perpetrated against women and girls in Islamic countries. How can we in the West stand idlely by while women and girls are treated as little more than sub-humans in these Islamic countries ?"

"Most commentary on gender and politics in the Middle East and Muslim world assigns a central place to Islam, but there is little agreement about the analytic weight Islam carries on the topic of women in Islam, accounting for the subordination of women or the role it plays in relation to women's rights.
